The Villa Belvedere is the most significant attraction of Frascati, the seat of the suburbicarian see, situated near Rome. It was built between 1598 and 1602 on the basis of the plans of Giacomo della Porta. The builder of it was Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini, the nepos of Clement VIII, among the documents of whom the Pázmány-protocol (CVH II/6) survived. The palace took its current shape by 1621 thanks to Carlo Maderno and Giovanni Fontana. The building is still owned by the Aldobrandini Family, it is the last pontifical villa and giardino that was not acquired by the State. Its garden is opened to the public, but the inner halls painted in Mannerist and Early Baroque style, including the famous Sala del Parnasso, are not. I could conduct research in the private archives located in the mansard with the special permission of the head of the family, Don Camillo Aldobrandini, through the contribution of the Soprintendenza Archivistica per il Lazio.

A VILLA ALDBORANDINI FŐHOMLOKZATA
A Villa Belvedere látványa Frascati városközpont felől közelítve, és a bejárata elől Rómára nyíló kilátás. A családi levéltár a timpanon alatt, a két voluta között található. (A felvételek 2016. június 29-én készültek.)

IL GIARDINO
Felvételek a Villa Aldobrandini kert felőli, hátsó traktusáról, a díszkertről és látványosságairól (Teatro delle Acque / Ninfeo – Il Mostro). A giardino vízijátékai olyannyira híresek voltak a maguk korában, hogy 1632. évi római követjárása idején Pázmány Péter is megcsodálta őket.
